Lakeland Steel Limited is part of the Lakeland Group comprising of a number of companies involved in different industries in the Rotorua Bay of Plenty area. This was the beginning of the company's interest and further designing and development in the timber industry. Since this time many projects have been accomplished in different areas of the engineering field. Installation of mechanical equipment into hydro power stations, fabrication and placement of draft tubes for hydro power stations to construction of a 60' commercial vessel and the Lakeland Queen paddle steaming vessel.
In the mid 1980's the company began to enter the sawmilling industry becoming established and experienced with installation of high tech equipment. Contracts with Fletcher Challenge Rainbow, Kawerau and a similar project for Tachikawa Ltd resulted
A number of installations completed by our team have included importing old equipment, re designing or modifying the machines and installing them into the timber site. On the Optimizing Saw the camera is positioned 6m upstream away from the saw to permit the whole board to be scanned before to cutting.
